For MSW Curriculum Track and Degree Completion Purposes:
Full time: Enrollment in a minimum of nine (9) credit hours per term. This corresponds to the University’s full-time flat tuition fee. Part time: Enrollment in eight (8) or fewer credit hours per term.
For additional information on general University enrollment statuses and policies, please see the University’s Office of the Registrar's Office Tuition & Fees (https://ro.umich.edu/tuition-residency/tuition-fees?year=135&school=104&term_type=75&level=84 ) , Enrollment Status (https://ro.umich.edu/student-records/enrollment-verification/enrollment-status ), and Glossary of Terms (https://ro.umich.edu/tuition-residency/tuition-fees/glossary#p ).
A. Before the beginning of the first term. Such students may request the change by emailing the Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management at ssw.msw.info@umich.edu including an explanation of the desired change. Students will be required to seek approval from the Office of Field Education by emailing the Office of Field Education at ssw-fieldoffice@umich.edu to assess any impact on the field placement schedule and determine the feasibility of accommodating the change request. In some situations, this may impact your start date of field. Students should also confirm that their curriculum schedule change will not conflict with the conditions required of any grant or scholarship offered by the School of Social Work.
B. Changes after the beginning of the first term. After the beginning of the first term classes, changes between full and part time status may impact your curricular schedule, your opportunities in field, and may impact your financial aid package. As such, the request must be made at least 6-months in advance. For example, a change requested by the 6-week mark of the fall would not be implemented before the following spring/summer semester.
In order for students to change their enrollment status (e.g. full time to part time, part time to full time), they must complete an Out of Sequence Petition. Changes to the curriculum schedule following enrollment must be approved by the MSW program director, director of field education and the assistant dean for enrollment management. Please note that there may be financial aid consequences for a change in any of these statuses.
